How To Turn Pain Into Purpose

I recently had this amazing talk with one of my best friends, Mindy Lawhorne, and the subject was so powerful that I wanted to share it with you! It’s about how to turn pain into purpose and lean into your faith and community.

I just adore Mindy, and you know, our discussion wasn’t just super enlightening; it felt like we were uncovering secrets on how to tackle life’s big bumps with a lot of faith and a whole lot of community spirit.

Below, I’ll get into all of the details of our heart-to-heart, but first, if you want to listen to the Obsessed or Not Interested podcast episode I did with her, I would love for you to give it a listen!

It’s perfect to put on while getting ready, doing stuff around the house, or even if you’re driving in your car.

Give it a listen below!

A Quick Background

Mindy is someone who’s been in my life for what feels like forever. She’s just one of those people who you meet, and you instantly feel like you’ve been lifelong friends.

And let me tell you, her journey is nothing short of inspiring.

I want to give you a little background on how she came into my life. We both stumbled into fitness with the classic Turbo Jam DVDs. You know, the ones that Chalene Johnson created back in the day. Still amazing workouts!

Well, because of Turbo Jam, we actually ended up in the same network marketing company for a health and fitness company.

She’s the real deal – genuine, strong, and resilient through and through. You’ll see what I mean shortly.

As a mom to two wonderful kids, she’s built this awesome group called the Bible Babes and even runs a podcast named “Hope and Struggle.”

Watching her tackle life’s ups and downs with such faith and determination is truly awe-inspiring.

She was sweet enough to sit down with me, give me all the details of her life’s story, and share some wisdom on pushing through tough times and parenting with intention. I promise you’ll want to keep reading to hear what she has to say.

Life’s Rollercoaster and Faith

When Mindy shared her life story, it was like opening a book filled with love, challenges, and unexpected turns, from diving into fitness and raising kids as a single mom to the bittersweet story of falling in love at a funeral, only to later navigate her husband’s cancer battle together.

The loss was heartbreaking, but Mindy’s tale is one of hope and everlasting love.

Mindy’s faith played a pivotal role in her journey through grief. She believes in the temporary nature of our worldly existence and the eternal life of our spirits.

She learned from her friend Mia Finnegan about the importance of real, raw grieving and facing the tough emotions head-on for healing.

The Strength in Perseverance and Community

Our chat took a deep dive into the importance of facing hardships head-on and the power of sticking it out through tough times. Mindy’s faith lights her path, guiding her through rough waters and inspiring her kids by example.

She also stressed the value of leaning on others during hard times. Her group, Bible Babes, was a beacon of support.

Mindy’s big on seeking help, whether it’s a solid community, counseling, or therapy, to work through the tough stuff and find healing.

To those new to their faith journey, Mindy suggests diving into Bible study and seeking a deeper relationship with God.

It’s a game-changer in shifting focus from our struggles to finding strength and direction in faith.

Breaking Free from Judgment and Living Authentically

Now let’s touch on the misconceptions about Christianity – like the judgment and strict rules, some think it’s all about.

Mindy’s take? It’s about the heart, not about checking boxes or looking a certain way.

Her faith journey is all about inclusion, understanding, and growth. It’s not about following a bunch of rules but about seeking, understanding, and growing closer to God.

Resources to Fuel Your Spiritual Journey

Mindy and Mia shared some awesome resources that have helped them on their spiritual paths.

Mindy loves the “Becoming a Woman of Freedom” study by Cynthia Heald and the tangible feel of a real Bible. She’s also a fan of the “Morning Mindset” podcast by Cory Greene and “The Bible Recap” by Terry Cobble for diving deeper into scripture.

These tools have been game-changers for them, and they’re excited for you to check them out, too. Regularly engaging with the Bible can spark incredible growth and a deeper connection with God.

As we wrapped up our chat, I shared how you can stay in touch and join the conversation through social media and my website.

I was so grateful for the enlightening conversation and hope it helps you as much as it did us. If you want to know even more details, you’ll want to head over to my podcast and listen to the full episode.

Final Thoughts: How To Turn Pain Into Purpose

Wrapping up, our heart-to-heart with Mindy was a beautiful reminder of the power of staying true to yourself, leaning on your faith, and being part of a community.

No matter what life throws your way, remember, you’re never alone. There’s a whole world of support and resources out there, ready to help you through.

Let’s keep leaning on our faith and each other, and together, we can face anything life throws at us.
