If you’re a part of my social media family (Snapchat and Instagram friends, you know who you are), you’ve undoubtedly seen me drink my daily superfood smoothie for over ten years. It’s not always your typical superfood smoothie, though; it’s a heavy metal detox with so many benefits! I love giving my smoothie that extra boost with heavy metal detox supplements. 

I’ve received countless DMs and messages asking what I put into this smoothie. So, I’m going to share with you the secret to creating my own twist on the Medical Medium’s heavy metal detox smoothie!

First things first. My family and I are huge believers in the power of supplements. Each one of us has a lineup of supplements we religiously follow.

The Importance of a Heavy Metal Detox

Now, you might wonder, “Why the emphasis on heavy metal detox?” Well, here’s the scoop.

Over time, our bodies can accumulate heavy metals from various sources—be it from the food we consume, the water we drink, or even the air we breathe. Elements like mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic can unknowingly creep into our systems. Trust me; these metals aren’t just hanging around doing nothing. 

They can:

  • mess with our energy levels
  • cloud our thinking
  • even interfere with how our organs function

Think of it as having a continuous bad hair day inside your body. Yikes, right? That’s why a good heavy metal cleanse is always a fantastic idea. 🚫🤘

Why We Might Need a Heavy Metal Cleanse

While our body naturally tries to cleanse itself, the constant exposure to these toxins can be overwhelming. These metals can be harmful, impacting everything from our cognitive function and energy levels to more severe health risks if they accumulate to a high degree.

Barley Grass Juice Powder

This green gem is like a detox superhero.

Barley grass juice powder is known for its chlorophyll content, which is believed to bind to heavy metals and help pull them from our bloodstream. 

It’s like a mini detox broom, sweeping away the toxins!

Not to mention, barley grass is a great source of vitamins A and C, rich in magnesium, and a good source of calcium and phosphorus, among other qualities!

So, it’s not just garnish; it’s good for you!

Raw Honey

Now, onto how to create this nutrient-dense smoothie! 

Here’s how you can recreate my favorite Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie for yourself:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Base (pick one): 8 oz of coconut water, almond milk, water, or flax milk
  • 1 scoop of Vegan Tropical Strawberry SHAKEOLOGY
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup (or even more!) of Wild Blueberries (you can find them frozen in most grocery stores, or you can use the powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of barley grass juice powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Spirulina powder
  • A handful of fresh Cilantro OR Cilantro oil
  • A pinch or two of dulse
  • Raw honey to taste
  • Optional: If you like them extra sweet, you can toss in some other berries, but I usually skip this.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Blend it all up and enjoy this refreshing drink that’s delicious and packed with benefits.
