Over a decade ago, I started my own business with pretty much zero organizational skills – seriously, it was a joke amongt my friends and family.
And honestly, every once in a while it still kind of is. Hello 5 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat, etc. lol!!!
But early on, I realized that if I wanted to crush my goals, I needed to get my act together, starting with learning how to schedule my week.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve become a pro at planning my week in advance, kicking off my Mondays on the right foot, and staying on track.
And guess what?
I can teach you how to do it too, in super simple, basic terms.
Trust me, I know how overwhelming it can be to see those perfectly organized blogs from super moms with color-coded binders.
That’s so not me, and if it’s not you either, you’re in the right place. Let’s break it down in a way that’s easy, doable, and totally stress-free.
Ready? Let’s do this!
8 Steps to Planning Your Week Like a Pro
Alright, let’s get right into my top eight steps to get you planning your weeks like a seasoned professional.
Pick a Day and Stick to It
First things first, choose one day each week to plan your schedule – and stick to it. I personally love doing this on Sundays.
Every Sunday night, I lock myself in my office (no distractions allowed!) and start mapping out my week. The key is consistency, so find a time that works for you and make it a habit.
Choose Your Calendar
Pick a calendar that works for you. I’m all about simplicity, so I use iCal on my Apple devices. If you’re not an Apple user, Google Calendar is just as awesome.
Start with a brain dump of everything you need to do for the week – yes, even things like scrubbing the floors.
TIP: Use different colors for each area of your life. For example, red for business, purple for kids, blue for appointments. This way, you can easily see if your week is balanced or if one area needs more attention.
Find Your Balance
Balance is a constant work in progress. It’s not one thing that keeps you balanced, but a combination of small things.
Start by writing down your top 3-5 priorities in life (be honest with yourself!).
For each priority, write a brief explanation of what it means to you. This clarity will help you keep your life balanced as you move forward.
Sort Out Your Time
Once you know your priorities, it’s time to sort out your time. You only need to do this once, and then tweak it as needed. Create blocks of time for each priority.
For example, if family is a priority, block off time for family activities with no distractions. If your business is a priority, set specific hours for work. This helps you stay focused on what matters most and reduces stress.
Plan Workouts and Meal Prep
Not everyone wakes up excited to work out (I know I don’t always), so it’s important to schedule it in. Also, save time during the week by planning your meals in advance.
My son and I plan his school lunches and our family dinners every Sunday. We even have theme nights like Taco Tuesday and Italian Thursday.
I also meal prep on Sundays, making dishes like chicken breasts and soups that we can reheat during the week.

Make a Daily To-Do List
Now that your week is planned, it’s time to work from a daily to-do list.
While your weekly schedule gives you a big-picture view, your daily list keeps you on track. You can go old-school with pen and paper or use your smartphone. I’m personally old school and use pen and paper.
My favorite planner is the Hyper Focus Journal! It’s so simple and created to cater to my ADHD brain.
if you want to grab one, you can check them out below!
Once you have your journal picked out, you’ll want to figure out if you’re a morning or night person and create your list during that time. I like to plan mine at night and finish it in the morning.
This habit helps reduce stress and boosts your productivity.
Set and Review Your Goals
Goal setting is my favorite part! It’s crucial to keep moving forward, so make it a habit to write down your goals every week. Break them down into short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals, and set deadlines for each.
Then, list at least 20 ways to achieve these goals.
Review them daily to stay focused. Keeping your priorities in mind while setting goals ensures you’re always working towards what matters most.
Get to Bed on Time and Wake Up Early
I know it’s tempting to stay up late watching your favorite shows, but getting enough sleep is key to staying on track. Aim for 7-8 hours per night.
Also, try waking up early – it’s tough at first, but once it becomes a habit, you’ll feel so much more productive.
Waking up early gives you a head start on your day and helps you get more done.
Final Thoughts
There you have it! These are super easy steps to follow to get your weeks organized! Planning your week doesn’t have to be overwhelming or time-consuming.
By following these simple steps, you’ll be well on your way to mastering your schedule and crushing your goals. Remember, it’s all about balance, consistency, and making time for what truly matters.
