Life can get pretty hectic, right? A couple of years ago, I did a 40-day detox that ended up being way more than just a diet change.

What Does My Detox Look Like?
At the end of 2022, my husband and I decided to embark on a 40-day detox. While detoxing is not uncommon for me, this time, I felt a strong divine nudge.
I sensed God urging me to not only eliminate certain things from my diet and life but also to incorporate healthier habits.
- I cut out gluten, dairy, processed foods, sugar, and alcohol, focusing on simple nutrition.
- I continued my workouts, paying close attention to my body
- I added regular sessions in my infrared sauna at least three times a week.
I had strayed from my nutrition plan and morning routine. The sauna sessions helped me regain the discipline to wake up early, fitting them in before my kids woke up, and reintroduced me to something I had missed dearly—my morning routine.
I had stopped reviewing my goals daily, creating to-do lists, doing my affirmations, reading my Bible, and practicing mindfulness to hear God’s voice.
The impact of these lapses was evident in my life. I felt more worry, stress, anxiety, fear of the future, and a sense of scarcity before starting our detox. About a week into the 40 days, I realized that these feelings stemmed from neglecting my morning routine and my spiritual practices.
Why God Nudged Me to Detox
On day 39 of our detox, at 1:00 am, my husband woke up smelling smoke. He searched the house but couldn’t find the source. When he reached Hudson’s room, it was filled with smoke, except for a small space above where Hudson lay sleeping. He feared the worst.
My husband calmly informed me of the situation, and we executed our plan. I got Hudson and Lilly out, and he got the other three kids from the basement. We all made it out safely, witnessing our house burn down and losing everything we owned.
God had prepared me mentally for this tragic event. My kids and I were filled with gratitude as we watched the fire, thanking God and praying for the firefighters who risked their lives to save our belongings.
This experience underscored the importance of a morning routine. It helps you stay positive, achieve your goals, be a better spouse and parent, maintain a positive mindset, and deepen your connection with the Lord.
Those 5-30 minutes each day can transform your life and equip you to handle life’s curveballs, just as it did for us on December 1st, 2022.
