First off, let me just say my skin isn’t perfect. In fact, it’s been a journey.

I had zero zits in high school and never bothered with skincare. But once I hit 20 (hello, late bloomer!), I started getting acne. A lot of it was hormonal, but my terrible eating habits didn’t help either.

The number one thing I’ve learned the hard way is this: what goes on your skin goes into your body.

The best skincare is treating your body right, inside and out. Make sure what you put on your skin is healthy and chemical-free.

I feel like I have a really good system down now that has my skin so healthy! One thing I do to keep my skin soft and hydrated is a sugar scrub a few times a month. And guess what? I’m sharing my favorite recipe with you so you can try it yourself!

Skincare Tips

Before I get into the recipe, here are some other tips for good skin:

1. Drink TONS of Water. Staying hydrated is SO important for your skin.

2. Eat Clean Foods. Pay attention to your diet. Certain foods might be causing your breakouts. For instance, dairy used to make me break out all the time. Keep a food journal to track what you eat and how your skin reacts. Try eliminating suspected foods for a week or two to see if your skin clears up.

3. Identify Food Sensitivities. Consider getting tested for food sensitivities. It’s not a must, but it helped me a lot. I went to The Wellness Way Clinic (they have locations all over the US and offer phone consultations, too), and they were super helpful.

4. Use Chemical-Free Products. I’m not a skincare specialist, but I do some research on ingredients to avoid. Natural and chemical-free products are the way to go.

My absolute favorite daily skincare product I swear by is Herbal Face Food. So, if you’re looking for good daily face products, I’m obsessed with HFF! Oh, and you can use the code “MINDY20” for 20% off!

My Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipe

Okay, now to get into the sugar scrub recipe that you’ll love!

Ingredients:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Organic Sugar
  • Sea Salt
  • Honey
  • Lemon
  • Essential Oils (optional)

Instructions:

I will say that, I don’t measure anything; I just eyeball it. You can’t really mess it up, so don’t worry!

  1. Start with coconut oil and lemon juice.
  2. Add sugar, a bit of sea salt, and honey.
  3. If you have zits, you can add in a few drops of melaleuca essential oil.

I use this scrub a few times a month. Combined with a healthy diet, drinking lots of water, and taking care of my skin, I’ve seen a significant improvement over time.
