The Benefits of Avocado During Pregnancy

Hey, all you glowing mommas and mommas-to-be! You know I love to chat about all things wellness, nutrition, and my family! I was thinking about all of my cravings during my pregnancy with Hudson, and wow, did it bring me back. And guess what topped the charts with pregnancy number three? The one and only avocado.

I remember going on a huge research spree with the foods I was craving, like you wouldn’t believe. You know me…if I’m going to put something in my body, it better be as good for my mini-me as it is for me.

So today, we’re diving deep into the benefits of avocado during pregnancy, and why it is more than just a food trend—it’s like the universe giving you and your bump a high five.

So, grab a smoothie, or hey, even some avocado toast, and let’s get into all the amazing avocado benefits for females, no matter what stage of the momma journey you’re on. 🥑

Ready to discover why this green goodness is your new BFF? Let’s do it! 🥳

Why Avocado During Pregnancy is a Must

Okay, so first things first, why avocado? Avocado during pregnancy is like the superfood sidekick you never knew you needed. You can’t just gorge on cupcakes because you’re “eating for two.” Instead, add an avocado to your daily menu, and boom—you’ve got yourself those much-needed extra calories without derailing your wellness train.

Let’s be honest: if you’re going to indulge in some treats, you might as well eat a treat that brings a whole squad of nutrients to the party, too. 🎉

Morning Sickness? Avocado To The Rescue!

Can we talk about how much of a pain morning sickness is? It has to make an entrance in that first trimester, right lol?

I suffered BIG TIME during my 1st trimester. But a slice of avocado toast in the morning can help keep the nausea at bay. Why? Avocados have B6 in them. B6 helps the body process amino acids, which reduces nausea. Vitamin B6 may also soothe stomach distress in some cases.

Thank you, vitamin B6—you’re a real one! 🙏

Nutrient-packed Avocado Benefits for Females

When your appetite has left the chat because morning sickness has entered, the least you can do is snack on an avocado. The nutritional profile is CRAZY. We’re talking potassium, magnesium, fiber, and HELLO, folate!

You’ll want to capitalize on FOLATE because this vitamin is like the fairy godmother in your baby’s neural development story. Don’t just take it from me; the science backs it up, too.

Folate, or folic acid, is important for pregnancy because it helps form the neural tube during early development. This can help prevent serious brain and congenital disabilities, such as anencephaly and spina bifida.

So, as you can see, it’s super important to make sure you’re getting enough folate in your diet!

Banish Those Cramps

Let’s not even talk about cramps during pregnancy. But, since we’re here, did you know avocados have more potassium than bananas? Sure do!

So, potassium is that friend who tells cramps to take a hike. 🍌< 🥑

Not Just Pregnancy But Also Breastfeeding

Yes, the avocado benefits for females extend to breastfeeding warriors, too! Your baby gets to gulp down all that nutrient-rich goodness as well.

My bestie Chelsea skipped rice cereal for her baby’s first food. It went straight to mashed avocados because there are ZERO nutritional benefits whatsoever in rice cereal. So she fed baby mashed avocados for his first food.

How cool is that?

Momma’s Morning Avocado Pudding Recipe

Oh, wait! Before I wrap this up, I wanted to leave you with my favorite pudding. Below is my amazing avocado pudding recipe.

This is so good and takes about 5 minutes to whip up:

  • 6oz Almond Milk (or any plant-based milk you do you)
  • A handful of Walnuts (soaked, if you can—easier on the tummy)
  • Organic Sugar or Honey (totally optional)
  • 1/4 Banana (also optional but adds a sweet kick)

Instructions:

  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender. Feel free to add chia, hemp, or flax seeds for extra oomph.
  2. Blend until smooth.
